27 Years of Chiropractic Practice in Alliston: Reflections on Healing, Connection, and Community

October has always been a month of reflection for me. The school year is well underway, a new season is upon us, colours start to change, and we celebrate the harvest. This season holds a special significance, marking 27 years since I joined Alliston Chiropractic. It’s a milestone that prompts me to look back on the journey and feel a mix of nostalgia and anticipation for what lies ahead.

My mother, Beverley, at the original office where Next Step Literacy now resides.

I arrived in the summer of 1997, as a young graduate, eager to embark on my career. I had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Burgess before taking over the practice in the fall of 1997.It’s humbling to realize that the practice has a history spanning over sixty years, and I have been a part of that legacy for the past 27. Over the years, I’ve witnessed the practice grow and evolve, mirroring my own personal journey. I’ve married, welcomed two children into the world, and even moved the practice from its downtown location to our current home.

Living and working in Alliston has allowed me to become integrally linked with the community. I recall numerous health fairs, workshops, and school events where I had the pleasure of sharing my knowledge about spinal health and wellness. Engaging with people outside the clinic has enriched my practice and deepened my understanding of the factors affecting health within my community.

The importance of preventive care became apparent during these events, prompting me to advocate for healthier lifestyles among the younger generation. It is one thing to treat a misalignment; it’s another to instill habits that prevent future issues. Witnessing families take charge of their health has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey.

Now, as we celebrate this milestone, I find myself in a unique position. My daughter, now an adult, is embarking on her own journey in health care. Meanwhile, my son is in his second year of high school, a constant reminder of how quickly time flies.

The Newton Family

These personal milestones intertwine with my professional experience. Our practice has always been a welcoming space for families, especially soon to be parents and new parents. I’ve had the privilege of providing care for countless newborns and their families as they navigate the joys and challenges of parenthood. It feels like a lifetime ago that I was in their shoes, yet it also feels like yesterday.

Looking back, I am filled with gratitude for the journey that brought me here. The relationships built with patients, colleagues, and the community have enriched my life immeasurably. As I look forward to the future, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for both the clinic and for my family. We are evolving, growing, and embracing the next chapter with open arms.

The fall is a time for reflection and retrospect, and as I celebrate 27 years as a Chiropractor, I am filled with a sense of gratitude that you have chosen us as a team for your healthcare needs. The journey has been filled with both challenges and triumphs, and I am excited to see what the future holds.

Congratulations Dr. Kent on 27 years of chiropractic care in Alliston. Such a wonderful legacy! If we were there we would be sure to bring you a huge bunch of flowers to grace your office and show our admiration and appreciation of you and your clinic. We moved from Alliston in 2014 but still remember your care fondly.

I definitely echo Rhona's words above Dr. Kent. You have a tremendous gift. Not only do you do an excellent job of providing chiropractic care, you genuinely care for the whole person, letting people know that we are more than just a patient or client. Your ability to listen to our stories and share your own always made a visit to your office a treat. Thanks so much for the years you cared for Rhona and me.
